Artist's Description

Aegir is the god of the sea in Norse mythology. He was both worshipped and feared by sailors, for they believed that Aegir would occasionally appear on the surface to take ships, men and cargo alike, with him to his hall at the bottom of the ocean. Sacrifices were made to appease him, particularly prisoners before setting sail.

Reynisfjara is a world-famous black-sand beach found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside the small fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal. With its enormous basalt stacks, roaring Atlantic waves and stunning panoramas, Reynisfjara is widely considered to be the most beautiful example of Iceland's lava black sand beaches. Its beautiful black sand, powerful waves, and the nearby Reynisdrangar sea stacks make Reynisfjara a truly unique place to visit.

About Debra Banks

Debra Banks

My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea, and the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans. Kahlil Gibran The ocean is my passion. I can spend hours just observing its many forms; drawn to its beauty, serenity, calmness, chaos, power and its ever changing colors, shapes and textures. I hope my photography conveys to you, if not all, at least a fraction of the emotion and the spell it has cast over me. The Natural World comes in a close second; landscapes, trees and flowers in all their simplicity, yet intricate and complex beauty. Then everything else! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to browse...
