Spectacular Fury, Debra— A lone pilgrim swallowed by a cathedral of jade and wrath, poised on the lip where Neptune’s temper becomes a liquid avalanche; he is half myth, half madman, dancing on the blade between annihilation and apotheosis while the rest of us mere mortals watch from the shore clutching our boards like rosaries. I’ve paddled out into similar cobalt fury more times than prudence allows, and every time the ocean lets me come back, I swear I hear it laughing—glad to have almost kept me.
